AcrySof® ReSTOR® Aspheric IOL After cataract extraction, patients have traditionally received a monofocal IOL (intraocular lens) implant. These lenses are a great improvement over a cloudy cataract lens, or no lens at all, but usually correct only distance vision. It is common to lose near vision with the normal aging process (a condition called presbyopia), and thus most cataract patients also require reading or bifocal glasses after surgery. Newer advances in cataract lens replacement can correct vision at a range of distances from near to far. For patients with both cataracts and presbyopia, the AcrySof ReSTOR IOL combines apodized diffractive and refractive technologies to optimize vision at a wide range of distances. Reducing the need for reading glasses or bifocals provides patients even greater freedom after cataract or presbyopia surgery. |
